DOR_VOR to ODR Conversion

The Delft ODR orbits for Envisat (ftp://dutlru2.lr.tudelft.nl/pub/orbits/ODR.ENVISAT1/eigen-cg03c/arclist) end sometime beginning of 2008. Therefore we need other orbits to process new Envisat scenes with DORIS. It is possible to use CNES precise orbits (DOR_VOR) files in Doris to process Envisat Interferograms.  These need to be converted to ODR files as a first step. Freek van Leijen from TU-Delft has written a matlab script file (dorvor_to_odr.m) for the conversion.

Editing EPS files in Ubuntu

I prepare my papers in LaTex and I like to keep my figures in EPS format. Quite often I need to edit couple things here and there, and for that purpose I use Inkscape. However it can not import EPS files directly. So here is how I open EPS files in Inkscape.

Ubuntu Thunderbird-Lightning Calendar

Sometime ago, probably around the time I upgraded to Ubuntu Jaunty Thunderbird-Lightning stopped working and I didn't get a chance to give it another go. I re-installed it the other day only to see that I still couldn't see my google-calendar. Here is how I solved it.

High-Res GMT Coastlines in UBUNTU

Apparently the GMT full and high resolution coastline packages were too big for debian/ubuntu servers. So you can not get them with a single apt-get command. Here is how I installed them.

SuSE can not Find Library

 Recently we had to relocate our computers from one computing facility to the other. All the computers had to get a new static IP address. Which was easy to change through YAST. But on one system we could not get yast to work. It kept giving this message:

computer:~ # yast
warning: the qt frontend is installed but does not work
warning: the ncurses frontend is installed but does not work
You need to install yast2-ncurses to use the YaST2 text mode interface
